Brief history

Massage has a long history; the earliest written reference to massage is in the Huangdi Neijing, the Yellow Emperor's seminal text of Chinese medicine, written around 2700 BC. In 460 BC Hippocrates wrote that "The physician must be experienced in many things, but assuredly in rubbing".

In the 1800's what became known as Swedish Massage was developed by Per Henrik Ling as part of his "Swedish medical gymnastics system". This was heavily influenced by Chinese massage, and in its turn has formed the basis of current European massage practice.
