Consultations

Before your first treatment I will complete a short confidential consultation, establishing your reasons for seeking massage, reviewing your medical history, and checking there are no contraindications to receiving massage - ie: nothing that would preclude you from treatment. Please allow 15 minutes extra for your first appointment.

Treatment

The exact form your massage takes will depend on your needs and wishes as established in your consultation, and on the length of session. Each treatment will be tailored to you, and in the case of a series of treatments may differ each time, as and when your needs change.

In general, you will need to undress down to your waist (removing trousers too if legs are to be included in the treatment), will be wrapped in towels and asked to lie on a massage couch. Client's modesty is strictly maintained at all times: only the area being treated is uncovered at any time.

Oil, cream or lotion is applied to the skin. The massage involves a variety of movements, essentially rubbing, stretching, compression, percussion (known as effleurage, petrissage, and tapotement) and manipulation of muscles and joints . The amount of pressure applied depends on the condition of the muscles and each client's comfort level and requirements. The massage can be as light or as heavy as required, ranging from a light and purely relaxing treatment to heavier, more invigorating, or deeper muscle work.

Treatments can take place in the clients home or in a clinic room.

Generally speaking, a 60 minute treatment will involve a full body massage, and a 30 minute treatment will cover back, shoulders, upper chest and neck; this is changeable according to clients' needs. 90 minute treatments are also available, to include more in-depth work on a particular area and face massage if required.

At the end of a treatment homecare advice is given, to help you relieve your own symptoms.

Occasionally some short-term stiffness and soreness can result a day or so after treatment as the body heals itself, but after this you should notice an overall improvement compared with before the massage.

Oils etc

I use a variety of different massage mediums, choosing the most suitable for the client and the treatment. All are made from natural plant-based ingredients, designed to be gentle and beneficial to the skin. These include simple and hypoallergenic oils/lotions for those with sensitive skin or allergies (please note: it is very important to mention any allergies during your consultation).
